Today would have been my Aunts Birthday, sadly she died this week, so she will hopefully be having a drink with the Angels. Olive was so very special to me, but I was not alone she was so very special to so many people. She was a person who had the enviable knack of making everybody in her life feel loved and special. I would love to write a long tribute to her, but as I type I realise knew so much and yet so little about her. Why? because she spent her life looking after others, she taught, she entertained, she was always there if you needed a shoulder a chat or just a bit of advice or even her Flapjack recipe..... no-one made Flapjacks like my Aunty Olive.
If nothing else she has left me knowing that there is a right way to do things, she didn't pass on her talent for seemingly doing everything with great ease, but I can't hold her responsible for that!!
She taught me to look for the beauty in everything, appreciate what you have and to look after what you have.
Just updating this post with some words a very dear friend sent me..... sums up everything
You can shed tears that she is gone...
or you can smile because she lived
You can close you eyes and pray that she will come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the loved you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her only that she is gone
or you can cherish her memory and let her live on
You can cry and close your mind
be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she'd want
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

ReplyDeletePeople don't always say what they have in their hearts and, even if she never told you, your Aunty Olive would have been very proud of you and you can always carry that with you even though she is sadly no longer here.
