Still a W.I.P but almost there

The Pink Dressing table has gone forever! Spent the weekend in between ironing and cooking and general weekend stuff altering my daughters dressing table. Matthew made it for her a few years ago when pink was OK, now she is 10 pink is so uncool! So to go with her new blue bedroom she now has a blue DT.

Not being the most patient of painters, i decided to go for the distressed look, which will accommodate the bashing G will give it. She's not into make up just yet (thank goodness) so it's mainly used for homework and crafting. It will have a piece of glass on the top which she can put photos etc under and will protect it from the crafting!

Too tight to buy 'proper' crackle stuff I painted it first with white gloss and before it had dried completely gave it a thick coat of emulsion. The effect is really good, though you can't see it from the photos too well, makes me wonder why people ever use the commercial crackle stuff. (better point out this was another of Heidi's tips!)

The 'holes' were from where she did have fairy lights round the mirror, but they have long since been broken, and now in their place are some metal hoops from which will hang various nick-nacks as she collects them.

The draw fronts and her name are embossed aluminium, which if i say so myself look fab!

Just going to add a clock through one of the holes when i get round to making one!

You may have noticed a bit of soldering going on on the mirror, unfortunately when Father Christmas delivered it Rudolf went over the bumps in the road a bit too fast and cracked it. FC mended it with snowflake stickers and did offer to pay for a replacement, but G was so caught up in the romance of Rudolf being in a hurry to bring it she wanted it left as it was, but wanted some of mums' solder on it... none of her friends will have a soldered mirror apparently!

(should just say the the untidy bits of wood at the bottom are not part of the design, they are just keeping it off the floor till we are sure the paint has comletely dried!)
