' Taking Flight - inspiration and techniques to give your creative spirit wings'
by Kelly Rae Roberts , who I heard being interviewed on a crafty podcast.
Anyway it came to me in a flash yesterday afternoon, due I am sure to reading this book. The reason I have become a bit stuck is that I believe I have been creating under the shadow of another. Feeling that I always had to please them, do stuff that they would approve of and like. This is no way to be free to create living under the 'fear' that you will be criticised/poked fun at/belittled. Your Art is your Art and has to please no one but yourself. It's simple but not easy!
But buoyed up by this realisation I very quickly created a canvas which I would never have considered doing before for all the above reasons. And how therapeutic was that!
You may not like it - I do - that's all that matters!
On a much lighter note, imagine G's reaction when she came through the other night to find mum taking a mould of her Dad's face..... surprised the poor girl didn't have nightmares! Not sure quite what I am going to do with it, but I will think of something!

Hi Nicks
ReplyDeleteJust popped over to see what you've been up to lately, what a shock to find you've been mummyfying your nearest and dearest! - I might have to have a go at that!
Love your canvas too, it says so much with so few words. Thanks for following my blog.

Love the canvas Nicks, very personal and unique. Debs H
ReplyDeleteYes, yes and yes, Nicks! That's more like it - I love your fighting spirit, it comes through on this blog like a happy bright beacon. And I couldn't agree more with you. Self indulgence is what art's all about! The old saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder is so true about art. It's subjectivity is precisely why we shouldn't butter up to the latest art fad or influence. I like to take my inspiration where I can get it, but to become slavish to a particular influence is just c...r...a...z...y!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl - it takes guts to do what you've just done! Maybe the mask in this piece (and on your father!) says something about the masks we generally wear to get "along" in the world. You are no longer a walking "misnomer".
Like it I love it like what you said as well makes a lot of sense you do sometimes LOL. XX
ReplyDeletePMSL@ Matthew he don't half have a lot to put up with mind you I wouldn't mind seeing the rest as a mould looks pretty good round the shoulders !:)
Well that's one way of getting some peace and quiet with Matt isn't Nicks?! lol
ReplyDeletehmmm Matt immortalised - is the world ready for that?! lol
Do it for you Nicks, go for it!
