Not your normal card!

OK I will come right out with it and admit it, .... I do have a bit of a problem with cards. If you buy them they are so expensive you may as well buy the person a small gift, I once bought a friend a melon and wrote Happy Birthday on it cos it was the same price as a card and thought she would get more enjoyment from it, She did, she had it on her mantelpiece for a couple of days and then ate it and enjoyed it - result! And for those of us who make cards, you know they take ages to make, but do you ever think.. this is just going to be chucked after the birthday or at best just shoved in a drawer!

Some of you may remember that last year I made my lovely husband an alternative 'card' which still sits on the mantelpiece, well I have made him another alternative one this year in the shape of a 'slide mailer' (Last years 'card' here)

Thought it only polite to use some of the goodies I got from the Craft Barn on Sunday! So I used some of the lovely Brrrr Blue Metal and embossed it with my new cuttlebug folder. Then employed Lin Browns Controlled Squish technique and cut a bit out, stuck another piece to the corner and then played with Ferro and Terra. I have never found stamping into Ferro/Terra very successful but I had a happy accident. I was using my heat gun to dry the paints when I realised that I had meant to use the cuttle bug folder as a stamp and stamp into the paint. The surface of the paint had just started to dry, but as the paint underneath was still wet, the impressed image took really well, it's not clear on the photo so you will have to trust me on that one!

The slides are very simple, just photos of his favourite people which I sandwiched between the slides and soldered around.

When Edward came home from school, I suggested that should make Daddy a card.... off he went into his bedroom and came out with this Lego model and said 'This is Daddy's card and pressie' He is soooo my son! LOL

Now see if you can spot....... Dad having a Beer on his Birthday, Mum painting on her easel, Sister admiring her new handbag in a mirror and Ed himself being a Gangster in Jail (I admit that last one is slightly disconcerting........)

  6. I love making cards too! So much nicer than buying one, and like you say, buying a card is so expensive these days! At least a lot of thought and care and love go into the ones you make yourself...that's so important. Well, we are definitely thinking about doing an international exhibtion with our altered books, we just don't have anybody to host it...(hint hint)...in the UK!
