Tat, Scrap or Treasure....??

Just spent a lovely morning browsing around our local Mini Scrap box - click on the link to find out more and here to find one local to you. Basically they collect a wide variety of materials, mainly donated by companies, that can be RE-USED in the community by drama and music workshops, clubs, schools and playgroups for arts & crafts, design technology, etc. These materials are usually thought of as 'redundant' or 'scrap' but in fact can provide a valuable resource.
Edward who really is a homebird thought this trip out was going to result 'into the most boring day in my entire life' now thinks this place is 'really cool' he collected a basket full of treasure for only a couple of quid and has already made himself a 'Jet pack' and 'Movie Camera' and has many plans for the rest of his stash. I on the other hand have got to find a home for the fabrics, buttons, wool, bits and pieces, lace, storage boxes, leather pieces, strange but interesting witches hat shaped wire forms and coolest of cool, a metre of transfer foil for .. wait for it, 40p a metre! Oh loads more stuff.... I am in heaven, saving the landfills and saving me money!
Upcycling is the way to go! - talking of which my Thursday night upcycling course came to the end of its 6 weeks this week, but yippee do dah they are carrying on after Easter! Great news!
Right off to find homes for my 'new' stash and tidy up a bit and then do some more work on my latest project - oh but I should finish off my entry for last weeks Sunday Stamper Challenge, sorry Hels it may be a bit late this week.

Quick Update re the 'Copper' scouring pads from Pondland... to my amazement they are actually copper (geek husband reliably informs me you can tell this because of the colour flame I got when I heated it with my blowtorch - umm forgotten now what it is, a greeny bluey colour I think) so for £1 you get 12 scourers which when unravelled give you a very workable sized oblong of copper netting, it wont stand too much heating though as it is very thin and you will soon burn through it! Bargain!

  1. Fantastic stash Nicks! I'm amazed to see there is one not a million miles from me - only trouble is I'm not part of a group / club / school etc, so don't think I could qualify. What a great idea though and it seems Edward is definitely following in your footsteps!
