A Block of Wood, A Happy Birthday, WOYWW and HE tells me off for collecting old Tat!!

" Everyone has Wings, Creating makes them visible"

This is another wooden block that I made for a lovely lady, instead of a birthday card - as I have said before I have a bit of a mental block making cards these days -
So Happy Birthday Nicki! I hope today brings all you deserve

Nicki is the truly talented artist who has designed a Christmas card in aid of Camille's Appeal (link in my side bar!!) the charity that I did the Bungee jump for in the summer. This post is also a blatant advert for her cards, for which I don't apologise

Unfortunately the wording smudged a bit when I sprayed on the activator for the glue to stick the Angel on - I really should stick to Uhu! - But it is fab glue! If we don't mention it Nicki may not notice, but she cant help but notice really, but it was a case of a smudged bit of tat or not tat at all!

Now then my fellow WOYWW'ers this is my desk after the above crafting session - its a bit of a cheat because this is how the desk was on Monday when I finished it, but ................ hang head in shame it is still like this today!

One of these days I may show you a tidy desk, it's all a matter of timing, cos it is tidy sometimes, honest! Just never on a Wednesday - well thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

Now over to the subject of my husband, who has the cheek to complain about my magpie tendencies.... I would like it made public that he is as bad if not worse than me! Look what he picked up from a local Science Research Company - they were throwing them out and asked if he would like them.... Now any ideas what we can do with seven conical flasks??

  3. Now that is funny - I think that gives you carte blanche to collect as much crafty 'tat' as you like!

I would either use glass paints on them or maybe use some of them as vases

  9. Your block card is wonderful! What a great idea. It would be cool if it were heavy enough to be a bookend too.

PS: I wish my desk looked that good. Mine looks that way all the time, actually, that's how mine looks when it is clean.

  14. I'd use some alcohol inks on those bottles. If you put some inside and swish it about there's less chance of losing it. Then you could also make a fairy in a bottle or use some clay like I did on a bottle (it's on my blog under "clay").

Love your wooden block - it is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.

  16. You're so wonderfully creative Nicks - your birthday block is brilliant (why can't I do stuff like that - LOL) Nicki must be chuffed to bits with it!

I bet your hubby had you in mind with those flasks - just ripe for altering - bet you already have ideas for them!

  17. You can use the flasks as flower vases. One flower in each. I like the block too. I don't think your friend will notice the mistake. Thanks for sharing. Happy WOYWW.

  28. Your birthday block is awesome, how do you mail that? Your desk has a lot of things that I could play with and experiment and hope to not cause a grind, but I kinda think the flasks your husband recovered are cool ;)
    Thanks so much for sharing!

  33. Hey Nicks... I believe you about the desk because the same thing happens to me - honest guv!

I think the smudged wording - is hardly smudged really - but when I zoomed in, i was looking elsewhere for some smudged writing because that on the right looks like it is meant to be like that - its just your 'artistic critical eye'... i think its a super piece of work.

If your husband is moaning at you, I could make several suggestions about what to do with the conical bottles - but none of them are publishable on here LOL..

    Hugs

  42. Your art work is amazing I love the idea of creating onto wood. I am halfway through a piece on wood. As to the flasks...you could tart them up as posh storage for beads or nails or use them with candles.
    Have a great weekend

  43. The birthday block is brilliant! Pot, kettle, black, as far as your Hubbie is concerned! They do look like urinals, but a bit of altering would cure that. Judith xx

  44. I just love your block and how creatively outside of the box (no pun intended). I also love the science flasks. Thanks also for saying hi on my blog.

  45. I like how you have a mental block so you make wooden block instead! There must be a simile in there somewhere! I'd probably faint if your desk was ever tidy, so don't do it, please! Love the glass jars, hubby was quite right to bring them home, small ones would make fantastic bud vases.

  46. The block is great; who wants a card when they can have a block? As to the tidy desk thing, who wants to see one of those? I love the mess; it makes me feel normal! As to the flasks, they could be made into skirts or dresses for dolls. Maybe. Maybe not!

    Good luck with them.
    have fun,

Ooh posy vases maybe painted up? Paint brush/pencil holders? It's a shame Halloween has just gone they would have made fun decorations filled up with 'potions'. :)
