Thank you Michael J Fox

I have always liked you, but now I like you even more after finding this  quote of yours... So I hope you don't mind Michael but I have borrowed it and used it for a sign to place on my Workspace door. It seems we may be on the same wavelength you and me!
(its a bit hard to photograph because of the shine on some of the elements, plus its concave (or convex??) but it says - A Creative Mess is Better than Idle Tidiness)

Anyone who has visited my blog before may - just may - have noticed that I am not the tidiest of crafters, I have tried, honest I have, but just can't manage it! Maybe I should blame my Mum... I grew up in a house which was clean enough but not exactly pristine because everywhere you looked there was wool/knitting/crocheting/sewing/materials/threads and half finished projects. My Mum had talent beyond your imagination where textiles were concerned (cruelly she passed that gene onto my sister and bypassed me!). Sadly she was diagnosed with Cancer when I was 3 and died when I was 14, so I never knew her in full health - that may have stopped her being a domestic goddess (apart from in the kitchen where she was one!) but it didn't stop her being creative - I think she had her priorities right - no one ever says, 'I remember your mum, her house could have done with a dust and a tidy' they say 'I remember your mum, she made me the most beautiful present once' / 'I remember your mum, she was very talented' - How would you rather be remembered??
I asked a friend once, how she managed to keep her house so beautifully tidy and clean, she had two children and she worked...... her answer??? 'Because Nicky, I don't have any hobbies like you' Correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I think thats quite sad.

So I will share with you, what my workdesk looked like once I had finished making this sign..... whoops better go tidy ha ha

  3. I really enjoyed reading your post Nicks. As my mum (who is still alive) bless her, lives in total disorganised chaos. Her hobbies range from cooking, beading, paper crafting and sewing and if you can find somewhere to sit down in her bungalow you are extremely lucky.......and the words Lets Have a Bit of Clear Out Mum is enough to raise her blood pressure to the extreme. Oooh I could tell you loads of stories about her, but there is just not enough room on this comment bit.....lol
Loving your sign, think I may make one for her front door.......... Annette x

  4. What are you talking about Nicks, that is tidy! I was brought up in an untidy house too, but my parents(when they were alive) where always known for helping others and I would rather be known for helping others than a tidy house. But it would be nice to be a wee bit tidier! The sign is brilliant by the way!

    Hi Nicks
1st time I have visited your blog, but sure I will be back again. When I was trying to tidy up my house with only a few hours to go before my step-daughter arrived with her husband, it suddenly hit me like a thunderbolt. I have turned into my mum! It was always a mass panic if anyone was coming to stay because things just didn't get tidied etc every day. But ask my mum to crochet, knit or sew something and it would be done as quick as you like. I make everything under the sun, my 'craft room' is a space under the stairs, the kitchen table, most of my shed, some of my bedroom, behind the settee, the landing, oh and my other shed! lol Ironing piles up, dusting is done when it really needs it. But child and animals are fed and loved and craft projects take over the house. Mum might not have given me the tidiness gene, think my sister has got that from my dad, my I am glad I have her creativeness. Keep writing Nicks, keep us smiling xx
