After seeing a folded book project by Suzanne I had to have a go, so what better reason than for a dear friends 'significant' birthday present!
I know a lot of people have issues with altering books - I don't. The books I have altered were doing nothing but sitting in a box in our garage, read/used/unloved.
The books I have altered now have a new purpose in life and are loved - landfill or mantelpiece, where would you rather be?
Originally I thought I was going down the steampunk route, but as it evolved it became more of a nature theme - so maybe the 'Mathmatics' book isn't really appropiate but I will pretend that it has some obscure arty meaning..
Can you see the deliberate mistake??? OK so maybe it wasn't deliberate :-p Originally I was going to have the book laying down as the tutorial showed but then DD came and sat beside me in my studio and stood the book upright.. immediately it looked 1000 times better - sometimes you need another persons eye!
Obviously I didnt check what way the up the book was - but hey, there are no mistakes in art - does it matter? nope!
Here is the link to Suzanne's original tutorial if you fancy having a look

All there is left to say is Happy Birthday to Lynn aka Linkon, I hope you like it - if you dont send it back because I am rather fond of it. Hope you have a fabulous 21st + a couple of years Birthday.
Thank you for being such a lovely friend x
Ooooooooooooh I love this project and I love what you have done with yours. Lucky Lynn! KT xx
ReplyDeleteLove it Nicks - so interesting! Thanks for acknowledging me...appreciate it! I too have done a "standy up" one too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I get time I intend to do one with more intricate folding and cutting .... you can do wonders with an unloved book!
Your blog is great btw...now following! Wishes Suzanne :)

ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love you folded book! Love the natural feel to all the elements! This is definitely a technique I have to try soon. I had to go to an altered book class before I could even rip a page out of a book - former Lit student curse.
