Someday, the altered art you make today will be
old, faded, falling apart, and someone else will salvage the bits and use them
in new altered art. It's the best that any piece of art can hope for

And now for something completely different ....

Eons ago the lovely Nicki Macrae sent me a present of some Soapstone. It's taken me this long to be brave enough to get it out and have a play. I was at a bit of a loose end yesterday and wanted to create but didn't know what to do (fingers are drumming impatiently waiting for Sir Skinners Evil Elixir Mixer  workshop to start nest week) - then I spied the box with Soapstone on it and got it down.

So this is my very first attempt, I decided just to play with it - having no experience of this stuff before - I wasn't brave enough to try anything 3D, so just doodled with the tools, then it started to look like an eye, so it became an eye -

Sadly I dropped it onto a tiled floor whilst I was polishing it and a bit chipped off, its very delicate and the edges are quite thin - but if the sculptor of the Venus de Milo can get away with it I'm sure I can!
Its not a stand alone piece, and I intend to incorporate it into another project one day when the time is right, so the odd chip doesn't matter

This is how the soapstone started off - the change in colour is pretty amazing!

I have lots more pieces to play with, so will be a bit more adventurous with the next bit
Watch this space!
