Someday, the altered art you make today will be
old, faded, falling apart, and someone else will salvage the bits and use them
in new altered art. It's the best that any piece of art can hope for

Steampunk meets Chickens

Meet Cedric the Steampunk Chicken, well actually I suppose it should be Cedrica as you dont get many male Chickens, but this one looks like a Boy - hopefully he wont have too many psychological problems as he grows up!
On the way back from the hospital yesterday with Georgina, we had a few minutes to kill (so she could go back into school during the break and not during a lesson) so we popped into a charity shop which I had often passed and meant to stop but never had. They didn't have a lot, but they did have this chicken - and as you may know I have a passion for chooks - it seemed ripe for altering.

So this is the before

 and this is the after.....
lots of paints and inks and waxy rub-ons were applied to give him/her a metallic look

lots of bits and bobs from my stash

and some shrink plastic cogs and as I couldn't find any suitable wheels in the bedroom of DS,
I resorted to cutting the lids off a couple of tins of food - hence we had to have spag bol tonight because it was the chosen way to use up two tins of chopped tomatoes! His/her collar is a precious bit of a tape measure that used to belong to my mum - it was well used and I remember it as a child - as she died 33 years ago and yesterday would have been her 81st birthday - I like to use bits of it on special projects.

So thats the tale of Cedric the Confused Chook
